2014 Christmas season!

My most favorite but hectic season is the Christmas card season! I love, love, love Christmas so being able to spend my time working on holiday themed family portraits is a delight! Especially since I get into the mood by listening (and singing along) to Christmas songs while editing! This year I squeezed 12 family sessions into a four-week period. That was fun!! But each session was so unique and fun, I’m already looking forward to next year!

Let’s start with the Mullis Family. This session was just before Thanksgiving and it was the first dose of cold that we had in NC so far this year. It was a very cold 40 degrees and they had a 2-month old braving the cold for some beautiful (first!) family photos! We met at a cute little park inside a neighborhood in Wilmington. Maintenance was setting up lights for Christmas and lucky for us, they started a roaring fire in the outdoor fireplace! Perfect photo op when we were feeling really chilly! After about 20 minutes little Max was telling us it was time to go, so we went back to the warmth of their home and finished some really Christmas-themed shots of him!

My next sessions took place at Brunswick Town with Briana, John and Peyton. Every time I photograph this family, Peyton just gets cuter and cuter! This day was also very cold and Peyton was being so adorable and patient! She didn’t complain once about it, but would just shiver in the cutest voice ever and then giggle about it. I want to just eat her up!!

My next session with the Boldt family was rescheduled initially due to cold weather and the day we met, it was so warm on the beach you could comfortably wear flip flops! That’s NC weather for ya! The biggest roller-coaster of temperatures on Earth! Well when I met them on the beach, I was greeted by the cutest little toddler all dressed up in a cute Christmas outfit. Over the summer when I first met them, their baby was just barely starting to walk, and now she was running around, as cute as ever! And they had a super cute idea for their Christmas card we even had total strangers stopping to take a picture of the set up!

The next family was the Steelman family and I went to their lovely home in Wilmington for their family photos. This was their baby girl’s first Christmas and both sets of proud grandparents were present for a full-family session! It was another cold morning so we did a very quick session outside in a neighbor’s nicely landscaped backyard then went back inside for photos with the Christmas tree! My favorite pictures of all are the ones of little Charlotte inside the Christmas present. I took so many and it was so hard choosing just a few because she is the cutest baby!

Katalina Rose

It seems like forever ago that Alexis told me that she was pregnant with baby #2 and finally, she’s here! The day I met her when she was three days old I instantly fell in love and she may have officially given me baby fever. Eeeek! From the few times I’ve hung out with the precious little princess, she is just SO awesome. I mean she basically slept through the entire session, never cried and didn’t need a diaper change! And when we took her to the beach on that absolutely perfectly, gorgeous evening, she stayed sound a sleep!

I’m so excited to be part of this family’s life and watch this little lady grow up.

Congratulations to the Lake family! Katalina couldn’t have been blessed with better parents and a big brother! 🙂

The Boldt Family

We planned this little session on the beach in Oak Island to happen just before sunset, which would have been beautiful but a typical summertime thunderstorm was on it’s way so we had a slightly different background than expected. It actually ended up looking wicked really awesome! Once again, an overcast sky was great to work with but the DARK storm clouds rolling in made for some unique shots that I’ve never got before!

The Boldt family were awesome to work with! Their baby girl was just about to turn one and was such a lover of the beach she was so happy to be there, waving at everyone walking by and pointing at all the doggies. Even the ones flying in the air! (she called seagulls “doggies!”) TOO CUTE!!

My family: the Gigueres and the Jocks

Going home for Thanksgiving meant that I was going to be able to see my whole family and meet my brand new baby niece! Since I was already bringing my camera home I offered to take my siblings family pictures for Christmas cards. Of course it had to be the coldest day of the year so far on Thanksgiving Day! I think it may have reached a high of 32 that day, but no matter what we were determined to get outside and take pictures around my uncle’s beautiful home in Connecticut. We are New Englanders, after all. This might have been record times for a family session too. Lot’s of running around and hugging to “stay warm” for pictures and we were in and out in less than 10 minutes per family! Might have been the first session I did where I did not break a sweat, too!

Here’s my sister Brooke, Dan and their children:

Brynn

I met back up with the Austermiller family to capture their daughter’s four-year old pictures. We met at a place called Westgate Nature Park in Leland, NC and I fell in love with the location. It has been newly built and has a pretty cool playground and then a neat walking trail through the woods. There are other dirt roads and wide open fields as you walk and at the end, an awesome wooden bridge that opens to a big platform with benches.

To add to this awesome scenery is the CUTEST little girl. She was a typical little girl who just wanted to play and run around. In between picking up rocks, climbing and pulling flowers she managed to throw in some adorable little smiles and poses. Brynn is a little mini southern belle and I loved photographing her!

The Anderson Family

Presenting my latest Coast Guard family with the cutest blonde hair-blue eyed baby girl I’ve ever seen! I met the Andersons at the Wilmington River Walk where the CG cutter Diligence is moored up. Erin wanted family pictures done before her husband, who works on the Diligence, went underway for a few months.

Their daughter who is just over two years old is at that stage where she just wants to go-go-go, all on her own so it was a bit tricky getting pictures done here! We tried all kinds of ways to distract her to keep her happy in one spot. One of those times though it ended with her falling and splitting open a previous cut on her knee. This ultimately meant the end of our shoot but luckily we were nearing the end anyways. We weren’t able to take our time and get portraits in front of the CG cutter but we tried a few quick ones before packing up!

Through it all, her cute little grin makes all the pictures so great and wonderful!
